PREPARED BY:

Oakland Park Fire Rescue Department

DEPARTMENT HEAD APPROVAL:  Fire Admin
SUBJECT:

Donation agreement for Fire Rescue sanitizing equipment - Byo-Planet Electro-Static Application System

1.BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Issue Statement: In 2016, the City of Oakland Park Fire Rescue Department was included along with eight other cities as a donor recipient from a grant obtaining sanitizing equipment called the Byo-Planet Electro-Static Application system.

Recommended Solution:  The City Commission adopt a resolution authorizing staff to execute the donation agreement with the Broward HealthCare Coalition for the Byo-Planet Electro-Static Application System.

This Byo-Planet Electro-Static Application system grant was brought forward and is managed by the Broward HealthCare Coalition (1855 Griffin Road, Dania Beach, FL. 33004). Under the grant, the City of Oakland Park Fire Rescue Department will receive (1) Byo-Planet Application System. This equipment provides a higher layer of pathogen containment and eradication from fire rescue equipment, vehicles and stations. While our paramedics always deploy the best practice in blood borne containment procedures we can never be sure the potential for cross contamination has been eliminated.

Used regularly, this equipment will enhance our containment procedures and provide a sanitizing layer unavailable in the past. This process will not only benefit our patients but will also provide a reduction in virus and bacteria contamination to our employees and residents.

2.CURRENT ACTIVITY

The Byo-Planet Electro-Static Application system purchased by the Healthcare coalition has arrived and is being stored at the BSO-Fire Rescue Logistics facility. The vendor will be conducting operator train-the-trainer programs February 7 and 8, 2017 of/which we have several fire rescue employees scheduled. These employees will then begin an internal training process at fire rescue to ensure correct operation, application and maintenance of the equipment.

Once the attached donation agreement has been reviewed, processed, signed and returned to the coalition they will distribute our  (1) Byo-Planet system.

3.FINANCIAL IMPACT

Not applicable at this time.   In the future, minor recurring costs associated with normal maintenance may be incurred but are not expected to be significant.

4.RECOMMENDATION

City Commission adopt a resolution authorizing staff to execute the donation agreement with the Broward HealthCare Coalition for the Byo-Planet Electro-Static Application System.
