Issue Statement: Board Member Roger Banks' term expires February 2023. Mr. Banks has been contacted and is interested in serving another two (2) year term. There are no additional applicants at this time.
Recommended Action: City Commission, by consensus, appoint one (1) member to the Civil Service board for a two-year term and adopt the resolution.
Background: Pursuant to Section 2-91 of the City's Code of Ordinances, the Civil Service Board consists of five (5) members appointed or elected as follows:
Sec. 2-91. The civil service board--Composition, qualifications, appointment, and term.
(a) Composition. The civil service board shall consist of five (5) members, appointed or elected as follows:
(1) Two (2) members shall be elected as provided hereinafter in section 2-91.1, by secret ballot of all regular full time classified service employees of the city, who are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
(2) Two (2) members shall be appointed by resolution of the City Commission.
(3) The fifth member shall be recommended by the city manager and appointed following the approval of the civil service board.
(4) Effort should be made to reflect the diversity of the city's workforce in appointments to the civil service board.
(b) Term of office. Each civil service board member shall serve a term of two (2) years commencing from the date of expiration of his or her predecessor's term.
