| | | | | | | | | 1. | BACKGROUND/HISTORY | | | The Friends of the Library created a scholarship for 2 local high school students. The scholarship was created this year, 2026, and is proposed to become an annual bequest. The Friends of the Library worked with The Scholarship Plug, a local organization that connects students with scholarships. They set up 2 scholarships for $1,000 each. The students must be residents of Oakland Park and attend Northeast High School. Those who qualify may use the funds for any post-secondary education such as a university, community college or trade school. |
| | | | | | | | | 2. | CURRENT ACTIVITY | | | Scholarships have been awarded to 2 students in the 2026 graduating class at Northeast High School. The award criteria included a minimum 3.0 weighted GPA and the required service hours as set by the school. The students had to also write an essay outlining their connection to the Oakland Park community and specifically the Library. The scholarship was awarded to students who recognize the value of education, civic engagement and the role of the Library in strengthening a community. |
| | | | | | | | | 3. | FINANCIAL IMPACT | | | None, as the scholarship is funded by the Friends of the Library, who are an independent 501(c)(3) organization. |
