On August 1, 2001, the City Commission adopted Ordinance O-2001-026 creating the School Advisory Board with seven (7) members consisting of citizens and residents of Oakland Park with one exception: no member shall be an employee of the Broward County School Board.
Each member of the City Commission is afforded the opportunity to appoint one (1) member to the board. The City Manager is afforded the opportunity to appoint one (1) member and the Board shall, as a whole, appoint an at large member who shall be a student attending either a high school or middle school located in the City. Each member shall serve for a term of one (1) year.
On September 18, 2019, the City Commission requested an amendment to the School Advisory Board member structure to include one (1) alternate board member.
