Unsafe Structures Board - Three (3) Members

1.BACKGROUND/HISTORY
    
 

Issue Statement:  Board Members Cheryl Ray Sader and John Sobol's terms expired May 2020. Board Member Marylou Adams' term expires June 2020. All three board members have been contacted and would like to be considered for another three (3) year term.

 

There remains three open positions on this board: Attorney, Electric Contractor and Real Estate Appraiser . There are no additional applications.

 

Recommended Action:  The City Commission, by consensus, consider the applicants for a three (3) year term and adopt a resolution.

ARTICLE III.  UNSAFE STRUCTURES BOARD
Sec. 5-31.  Created; composition.

The Unsafe Structures Board is hereby created, consisting of nine (9) members who shall be appointed by the city commission. All professional members of the Unsafe Structures Board shall be registered and licensed in the State of Florida. In the event the city commission cannot find a properly qualified resident of the city, it may by a majority vote appoint a qualified nonresident for the specific categories or professions required. (Ord. No. O-93-14, § 8, 10-6-93)

Sec. 5-32. Qualifications of members and terms of office.
(a)Qualifications. Members of the board shall be permanent residents of the area under the jurisdiction of the city commission authority who possess outstanding reputations for civic activity, interest, integrity, responsibility and business or professional ability.
 
The composition and representative membership of the board shall be as follows:
(1) Registered engineer
(2) Registered architect
(3) General building contractor
(4) Electrical contractor
(5) Attorney-at-law
(6) Plumbing contractor
(7) Real estate appraiser
(8) Real estate property manager
(9) Citizen with experience and background in the field of social problems

Appointments shall be for the term of three (3) years provided that the term shall continue until a successor is appointed and qualified. Appointments to fill any vacancy on the board shall be for the remainder of the unexpired term, but failure to fill a vacancy shall not invalidate any action or decision of the board.

 

Five members of the board constitute a quorum necessary to hold a meeting.

Board Members Cheryl Rae Sader, Teacher/Knowledgeable in Social Problems; John Sobol, General Contractor; and Marylou Adams, Property Manager, have all been contacted and wish to continue to serve another three-year term on the Board. Their applications and residential confirmation form are attached.

 

There are no additional applicants at this time.

 

The Board meets, as needed, the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. The last meeting was held on April 3, 2018.
