Issue Statement: The annual terms of the Planning and Zoning Board members expire April 2021. All current members have been contacted to confirm their desire to remain on the board for another one year term. Board members Stevens, O'Byrn and Doren are not seeking re-appointment. Board Member Doren resigned due to temporary residential location.
Recommended Action: For each Commissioner to appoint one (1) member to the Board and by consensus, select an alternate member to all serve a one (1) year term ending April 2022 and to adopt the corresponding resolution.
The Planning and Zoning Board
(A) Establishment and membership.
The City Planning and Zoning Board is hereby created and established, consisting of five (5) members, an alternate and a non-voting ex-officio representative of the Broward County School Board. Said alternate shall have no voice and no vote until he or she is called by the clerk to replace an absent regular member. Each member of the Planning and Zoning Board, except the non-voting ex-officio representative from the Broward County School Board staff, shall be a resident and qualified elector of the City of Oakland Park. Any member of said board may be removed for cause by the affirmative vote of the City Commission. Said members shall be appointed by resolution of the City Commission, and each shall serve at the pleasure of the Commission. New appointees shall serve for a period of one (1) year from date of appointment. Attendance policy for members of this board is governed by Section 2-72 of this Code of Ordinances. Such board shall elect a chairman, vice chairman and secretary from its members. The alternate member is to be paid the same rate as regular members for all meetings attended as an official delegate. The Mayor, Chief Building Official, City Attorney and other City officials are considered as advisors to the Planning and Zoning Board and may be called on from time to time to meet with said board. The School Board pursuant to F.S. § 163.3174, as amended from time to time, shall appoint a school district staff member to be its non-voting ex-officio representative on the City's Planning and Zoning Board.
This Board meets on Mondays following the first Commission meeting of the month at 6:30 p.m.
