The City of Oakland Park participates in FEMA's Community Rating System Program which provides properties with discounts on flood insurance premiums. Every three to five years, the City is visited by FEMA and given a new Class Rating depending on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, its stormwater programs and projects. As part of the last cycle review, the City adopted a Repetitive Loss Area Analysis in 2019 as one of the City's stormwater management programs.
In 2020, the City successfully increased our Class Rating resulting in a greater citywide discount.
The Repetitive Loss Area Analysis collects flood insurance claim data submitted by a property. The data collection does not include any City investment of stormwater improvement projects. The information contained in the report is annually evaluated by staff to ascertain to determine if additional capital work, or other programs/projects are needed for repetitive loss areas.
A report on the progress of the implementation of the Repetitive Loss Area Analysis as part of the City's Community Rating System (CRS) flood insurance rating system is required to be submitted annual to maintain the City's rating.
