| | | Issue Statement
On May 3, 2021, a Public Works Solid Waste Front Loader truck caught fire on Interstate 95 while returning from the dump site in Deerfield Beach. There were no injuries; however, the truck sustained significant damage. The damage to the Solid Waste Front Load truck was reported to the City’s insurance carrier, Florida Municipal Insurance Trust (FMIT) (which is run by the Florida League of Cities).
Recommended Action:
There is an active insurance claim on this vehicle but due to the operational need for trucks available to service our customers, Public Works is seeking to replace the truck as soon as possible. Lead time in procuring and taking delivery of a solid waste service truck may take as long as nine months. The replacement truck, a New Way Mammoth 40 Yard Front Loading Refuse Body, 2021 MACK TE64R Chassis is available on the Sourcewell Contract #091219-NWY at a cost of $260,524.00.
It is expected that the City will combine the anticipated insurance payout and contingency funds to purchase this replacement vehicle. |

| | | There is an active claim being processed through the City’s insurance carrier, Florida Municipal Insurance Trust (FMIT) (which is run by the Florida League of Cities).
The new Solid Waste Frond Load Truck is available on the Sourcewell Contract #091219-NWY (available in the city clerk's office) at a cost of $260,524. The City regularly uses this contract for the purchase of vehicles including past Solid Waste vehicles. |

| | | As shown in the attached quote from Southern Sewer Equipment Sales, the cost of a New Way Mammoth 40 Yard Front Loading Refuse Body, 2021 MACK TE 64R, as mentioned above is $260,524. As also mentioned above, funds to purchase the replacement truck will be taken from the proceeds of the insurance claim proceeds. While the insurance claim is still ongoing, contingency funds will be utilized to purchase the replacement front loader truck.
