| | | | | | | | SUBJECT: Approval of $50,000 Artistic and Cultural Donation Agreement with Mr. Amos Chess |
| | | | | | | | 1. | BACKGROUND/HISTORY | | Issue Statement: Mr. Amos Chess has advised the City Manager's Office that he would like to donate $50,000 to the City of Oakland Park for the purpose of purchasing a grand piano for the new library/community center to be constructed on the City Park site.
Recommended Action: The City Commission adopt a resolution accepting the donation and authorizing the appropriate City Officials to execute a donation agreement with Mr. Chess. |
| | | | | | | | 2. | CURRENT ACTIVITY | | As proposed by Mr. Chess, the donation would be in the amount of $50,000 to fund the purchase of a grand piano or a baby grand piano, with or without player piano functionality, for installation at the new library/community center. Mr. Chess has directed that any residual funding left after the purchase of the piano be used to fund cultural or artistic elements for the new building.
These conditions are reflected in the attached donation agreement in section 2.2. The funds, once received, will be separately accounted for by the City within the Library's Special Revenue Fund and their future use will be restricted to the stated purposes in the agreement.
| | | | | | | | 3. | FINANCIAL IMPACT | | By accepting the agreement, the City will receive $50,000 for the purchase of a piano for the new library/community center building and any remaining funds after the purchase can be spent on artistic and cultural features at the new facility.
The cost of such pianos varies based on size, model, make, age and player system functionality. |
| | | | | | | | 4. | RECOMMENDATION | | The City Commission adopt a resolution accepting the donation and authorizing the appropriate City Officials to execute a donation agreement with Mr. Chess. |
