In 2021, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) completed roadway improvements on NW 21 Avenue north of Oakland Park Boulevard on behalf of Broward County. During the construction phase of the project, the City requested that Broward County fund the design and installation of landscaping along the corridor. Although landscaping could not be installed, other than Bahia sod, during the roadway construction project, Broward County agreed to fund the landscaping project after the completion of FDOT’s project. The City will be responsible for the construction phase of the landscaping and irrigation.
Broward County completed the landscaping design plans and cost estimate for the proposed design. Along with the design plans, Broward County requires a Joint Participation Agreement (JPA) in order to receive reimbursements from Broward County.
The Agreement covers reimbursement for landscape and irrigation improvements, as well as, Construction Administration (CA) and Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) services with a maximum amount not-to-exceed Three Hundred Eighty Thousand Dollars ($380,000). The cost estimate provided by the County for construction is $292,974.47, with the difference to be used for project contingency as well as CEI and CA services. Another component of the JPA involves the City accepting all landscaping maintenance responsibilities along NW 21 Avenue from Oakland Park Boulevard to Prospect Road.
