Issue Statement: The City has continuing service agreements with multiple engineering firms; however, the existing agreements do not contain specific language as required by Broward County that would allow the City to engage said firms for Surtax projects and be reimbursed for services rendered.

Recommended Action: That City Commission adopt a Resolution authorizing the amendment of the existing agreements with Craven Thompson & Associates and Calvin Giordano & Associates to include County specific language as required to utilize engineering services on Surtax funded projects.

The City was awarded Surtax funding for the Oakland Park Boulevard Phase 2 Landscaping Project. Surtax projects, for design and construction, must follow Broward County guidelines for Contractor and/or Engineer selection and use.  The Oakland Park Boulevard Project requires the use of engineering firms for Construction Administration (CA) and Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) services. The City currently utilizes the services of various engineering firms through continuing service agreements; however, those agreements do not contain the necessary County language that will allow the City to utilize the services of these firms.  Amending the existing agreements to include the specified County language allows for use of these firms which subsequently allows for reimbursement of funds from Broward County.

Broward County has reviewed and approved the amended agreements for legal sufficiency.

Amendment to the Professional Services Agreements with Craven Thompson & Associates and Calvin Giordano & Associates to include Broward County contractual language as required to utilize engineering services on Surtax funded projects has no financial impact. 

Any future tasks with costs exceeding the City Manager's authority will  be brought for City Commission authorization.

That City Commission adopt a Resolution authorizing the amendment of the existing agreements with Craven Thompson & Associates and Calvin Giordano & Associates to include County specific language as required to provide engineering services on Surtax funded projects.
