| | | | | | | | | 1. | BACKGROUND/HISTORY
| | | Legislative Action: On October 20, 2021, the City Commission approved the ordinance on first reading by a 5-0 vote.
Issue Statement: Florida State Statutes provides municipalities the authority to regulate vehicles within their jurisdiction. This authority includes regulating wheel and axle loads and gross vehicle weights, requiring proper registration, and providing regulations for unsafe commercial motor vehicles to promote the public health, safety, and general welfare upon the streets, roadways, and highways. City staff seeks to codify the State’s established weight limits pursuant to Florida Statutes Chapter 316.
Recommended Action: Staff recommends the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance regulating Vehicle Weight and Load Restrictions, Unsafe Vehicles, Property Registration, and Special Permits in accordance with Chapter 316 of the Florida Statutes. |

| | | The program requires the use of weight scales and other equipment necessary for its implementation. For the initial start-up of the program, BSO Oakland Park District has identified scales within the BSO inventory that will be assigned to the Oakland Park District. |

| | | Staff recommends the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance regulating Vehicle Weight and Load restrictions, in accordance with Chapter 316 of the Florida Statutes. |
