| | | | | | | | SUBJECT: Fire Department Replacement Extrication Equipment |
| | | | | | | | 1. | BACKGROUND/HISTORY | |
Issue Statement: The Fire Rescue Department has extrication equipment that has reached end-of-life service and is budgeted for replacement in the Fiscal Year 2022 budget for replacement. Specifically:
- Rescue extrication equipment, typically called "Hurst tools" or "Jaws of Life" by the general public. This set of 5 tools and associated accessories is used to cut and bend metal as needed to rescue persons trapped.
- Lift Bags. This set of 3 lift bags and associated accessories is used to lift heavy loads to allow persons trapped to be freed.
Recommended Action: Staff recommends that the City Commission adopt a resolution approving the purchase of the required replacement extrication equipment from Rescue Systems Unlimited in the amount of $60,475.00.
This expense was contemplated during budget development and is included in the approved fiscal year 2021-2022 budget.

| | | | | | | | 2. | CURRENT ACTIVITY | | The Fire Department has used the current extrication equipment for 10 years and it has reached its end-of-life usefulness and can no longer be repaired. This required replacement was a planned expense and was contemplated during budget development and is included in the approved fiscal year 2021-2022 budget. The Fire Department determined that Rescue Systems Unlimited was the sole source for this required extrication equipment as it was the only equipment compatible with our existing extrication equipment that this equipment interacts with.
| | | | | | | | 3. | FINANCIAL IMPACT | | As shown in the attached quote from Rescue System Unlimited, the cost of the required replacement Fire Department extrication equipment is $60,475. This replacement was contemplated in the budget development process and the funding of this replacement was approved in the 2021-2022 fiscal budget. The purchase was identified as a Business Plan Initiative supporting the City's Strategic Performance Area for Public Safety.
