| | | | | | | | SUBJECT:
Purchase of one new 2023 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor vehicle - Fire Rescue Dept. for Training Division Chief |
|
| | | | | | | | 1. | BACKGROUND/HISTORY | | Issue Statement: The Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget included the creation of a new Division Chief position within the Fire Rescue Department. This new position requires a dedicated vehicle. Funding for this vehicle purchase is included in the FY 2022 budget.
Recommended Action: Staff recommends that the City Commission adopt a resolution authorizing the purchase of one 2023 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor vehicle for Fire Rescue from Duval Florida in the amount of $36,079 using Florida Sheriff's Association (FSA) Contract FSA 20-VEL28.0 and $3,053 for safety lighting from Strobes-R-Us.
Background: The Florida Sheriff's Association assists local municipalities in securing vehicles and equipment through an annual competitive procurement process. The bidding process uses the concept of volume-based pricing to secure competitive pricing for the procurement of government vehicles and equipment. This program offers municipalities the ability to purchase vehicles and equipment at wholesale pricing rather than being charged retail rates. The City of Oakland Park has utilized the Florida Sheriff’s Contract for several years and has always received the lowest available prices. |
|
| | | | | | | | 2. | CURRENT ACTIVITY | | This agenda item addresses the purchase of one additional vehicle for the newly created Division Chief. This vehicle will be used to respond to emergency calls that require the position respond to as part of the hierarchy of the incident command system. It will also be used to travel to different training sites, each of our fire stations, and carry training equipment.
The vehicle recommended for purchase is a 2023 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, which is available from Duval Ford using the Florida Sheriffs' Association contract pricing of $36,079. Vehicles are extremely competitive utilizing the FSA contract, but the prices of some add-on accessories on the FSA contract may be higher. Therefore, staff is recommending procuring safety lights locally from Strobes-R-Us after the vehicles have been received. The cost of the safety lighting is $3,052.73 (Exhibit B). |
|
| | | | | | | | 3. | FINANCIAL IMPACT | | As shown in the attached quote in Exhibit A, the cost of the vehicle is $36,079 and the cost of the safety lights is $3,053 in Exhibit B, for a total cost of $39,132. Funding for this vehicle purchase is included in the FY 2022 budget as a business plan initiative supporting the Public Safety Strategic Performance Area of the Strategic Plan.
