| | | | | | | | SUBJECT: Fire Department Replacement Protective Gear |
| | | | | | | | 1. | BACKGROUND/HISTORY | | Issue Statement: The Fire Rescue Department has firefighter personal protective gear (bunker gear) that has reached end-of-life service (10 years) and is budgeted for replacement in the Fiscal Year 2022 budget. This gear is worn by firefighters during structural firefighting and extrications to protect them in hostile environments.
Recommended Action: Staff recommends the City Commission adopt a resolution approving the purchase of the required replacement firefighter personal protective gear from Bennett Fire Products Co, Inc. in an amount not-to-exceed $81,000 utilizing the terms and conditions of the Lake County, Florida contract #17-0606B for Fire Equipment, Parts, Supplies and Services. |
| | | | | | | | 2. | CURRENT ACTIVITY | | The Fire Department has used the current firefighter personal protective gear for 10 years and it has reached its end-of-life service and can no longer be used per National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations. This required replacement was a planned expense and was contemplated during budget development. The funding is included in the approved fiscal year 2021-2022 budget.
The Fire Department determined that Bennett Fire Products Co, Inc. was the most cost-effective source for this required replacement of firefighter personal protective gear that meets the new NFPA requirements.
As shown in the attached quote from Bennett Fire Products Co, Inc., the cost of the required replacement firefighter personal protective gear is $2,491.40 for one complete set. A complete set of gear includes one jacket at $1,312.60 and one pair of trousers with an escape belt at $1,178.80. Pricing is based on the Lake County, Florida contract #17-0606B for Fire Equipment, Parts, Supplies and Services. This contract, which provides for a 44% discount off Bennett's list price, is currently in effect through June 30, 2022. |
| | | | | | | | 3. | FINANCIAL IMPACT | | This replacement was contemplated in the budget development process and the funding of $81,000 for this replacement was approved in the 2021-2022 fiscal budget.
